     "Prehistoric Wetland Settlement and Mobility Patterns in the Mono Basin, eastern California"

The public is invited to hear Ryan T. Brady, 2005 recipient of Sacramento Archeological Society’s scholarship discuss his research on prehistoric wetland settlement and mobility patterns in the Mono Basin, eastern California. The society promoted this thesis topic by funding geochemical sourcing of obsidian artifacts collected during Ryan’s theses fieldwork.

Starting at 7:00 p.m. before the presentation enjoy a potluck. Bring your favorite dish to share. Bring friends and prospective members. The presentation will be held in the Community Room of the Yolo County Library: Arthur F. Turner Branch, located at 1212 Merkley Avenue, West Sacramento, CA 95691 (916/375-6465).  Direction from U.S. 50 and Business I 80: exit north on Jefferson Avenue.  Go one block and turn right, east on Merkley Avenue.  Go about 150 yards, and turn left into the Library parking lot. 

 

 

Old Sacramento Archeological Tour

Tentatively if there is room on the tour, Society members may be joining a scheduled archeological tour of Old Sacramento on Saturday, April 22 at 9:00 a.m. Keep this day open. More information will be available. There will be a fee for the event.

 

 

 

 

 

 

2006 Scholarships

The society is again seeking applicants for Scholarships. Attached is the Scholarship information sheet and application form. Please give it to any one who might be interested. Scholarship applications are due on May 15, 2006.

 

Garage Sale Fundraiser

Save those items from your spring purge for the Society’s Garage Sale Fundraiser. In order to continue to offer Scholarships to worthy Archaeology/Anthropology Students the society is planning a garage sale to raise funds. The date is tentatively scheduled for the fundraiser is Saturday, June 24.

 

 

Sacramento Archeological Society Book Club

The next meeting of the society’s book club will be held on Thursday, May 11 at Jan Johansen’s home. We will be discussing Gun, Germs and Steel, The Fates of Human Societies. Put the date on your calendar. Happy reading. All members are welcome.

The first two books that have been selected for the quarterly book club are:

Memberships

Sacramento Archeological Society currently has 23 paid memberships, numbering 33 members for 2006. If you have a friend who is interested in archeology, encourage him or her to join our society.
